I have a two year old side by side fridge. The compressor will sometimes kick on and sometimes it will not. Usually when it does not kick on a buzzing sound will be heard for about 10 seconds. The cycle will continue every minute or so untill either the compressor finally kicks on or it quits buzzing and trying to kick on. I have found that unplugging the fridge and plugging back in will sometimes allow the comp to kick on imediately as it should.

Repair man could not tell me if in fact the compressor is bad or not. Suggested replacing the starter switch with a 60 percent chance that it might fix it. The switch does not appaer to be burned on the outside. Even though the compressor is covered under wrarranty I am not inclined to replace it due to labor costs but would be inclined to replace the switch myself if it may fix the problem.

Any sugestions would be welcomed.

If the compressor was the problem it would not start at all.

It sounds like you have a bad start relay or run capacitor.
