Compact Fridge - Intermittent Power Brand: General Electric Model Number: GMR04HASCS Age: 1 - 4 years I have an opportunity to get a much-needed compact fridge from a former neighbor. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work.
It was bought new by them, and used by their son in a dorm room for part of a school year. It was then moved (likley in upright position) back to their home, and stored in an unheated pole barn for over a year. We are in Michigan, and do experience freezing weather.
When they plugged it in, nothing at all happened. However when tilted to the side to have a look for the problem, the unit turned on. Set back upright, it turned itself off again. It does not have any lights, so listening to it is the only way to tell if it's off or on.
I'm thinking it may just be an electrical short-- possibly a corroded cord connection. Any other explanations for how it's acting? What might I be missing?
One further question-- GE website says never transport this unit in other than upright position. What damage might be done if it's transported in a tilted-to-the-side position? It's just a bit too tall to stand upright in my sub-compact station wagon, so tilted is the only possible way I could transport it.
Thanks very much for any and all help in getting this unit running consistently. |
