Unhappy Coldspot - IceMaker - I think I broke it. :-(
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.56596500
Age: 1 - 4 years

Side by side - Ice maker is in the freezer (not in the door) - There is ice/water dispenser in the door. Manufacture date is 10/2005.

It was put into a new home on 10/2006. Home was empty until we moved in 10/2007. So, this frig has only been used for 5 months!

Anyway, hoping someone can help me. There's a metal bar (the actuator bar) right on the icemaker, above the ice bin itself. When pushed up, it clicks a bit and "turns off" the icemaker. To turn it back on, you click it back down and ot sits in about a 45-degree angle position.

When unloading groceries the other day, I put a box of ice cream bars kind of in the ice bin, while putting away other stuff. It was leaning against that bar pushing it down. I forgot about it and closed the freezer. A few hours later I opened the door, saw the box and moved it.

It has never made ice since (about 5 days now). The bar clicks up and down still, and there is no ice in the maker itself, but when the bar is in the down position, it now is in about an 80 degree angle, not the usual 45-degree angle (pointing more downward than before).

But that's all, nothing is frozen over or anything. I've clicked it up and down a couple of times. But it is silent...mocking me (:-)

So, what do I check? Anyone know anything about this model?

Thanks!

Anna in Vegas

The bar may have come out of place.

You will have to take the cover off the ice maker and see it the switch is being activated.

Thanks so much Sheila. I'll try it now. :-) -- I've never worked on an icemaker before, but can build a computer from parts and when I dropped my cell in a sink full of water, I fished it out took it apart and dried it and it works great! So, we'll see how this goes!

Again thanks!
