Question Clear White Flecks in Water Dispenser
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRS26LH5DS0
Age: 1 - 4 years

We live in tampa, FL ... so in these parts we have what's considered hard water. However, not so hard that you would see flecks of clear to white thin particles floating around in your glass if you fillied it from your sink tap.

But on my Frigidaire, when you use the water dispenser, you get these flecks in the water. By flecks I mean they look like small thin pieces of clear skin. That's the best I can describe it.

So, my diy solution was to replace that funky "coil" water reservoir clear tubing that sits in the back of the fridge. New reservoir, same problem. So I then assume its the water coming into the house is bad, but then why don't I see these flecks come from the kitchen or bathroom taps? Since I only see them coming from my fridge's water dispenser, I assume then its the pvc line coming from the wall to the fridge. So I replace that line with stainless steel. Still get the flecks. So I then assumes that somehow these flecks were coming in on just that line, and I buy a 50,000 gallon/5 year in-line water filter and put between the wall and the fridge. Nope. Still get the flecks.

So ... I now think that the flecks must be coming from the water line that is after the filter inside the fridge that runs to the dispensing unit. Problem is, how do I get to that on my own? I think I've done everything I can do with my limited knowledge of the inner workings of a fridge.

Anyway, if anyone here has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it.

Default White particles in ice cubes

Hi,
I have the same name brand fridge, same yearspan. I also have the thin white particles in the ice, but not the water. I've run the ice maker through 5 cycles, and the particles are getting smaller. I agree that the particles are coming from somewhere after the filter. They almost look like the scum you see in water that has sat for a very long time. When we first hooked up the ice maker, we ran the water dispenser for 3 mins as stated in the manual. There was no mention of running the ice maker to clean the line. We have a whole house water filtration system, so I know that the fridge is the cause of the white particles. Hope this helps.

Yes, scum is a good description. That's what it looks like.

So, I asked a representative from my county's water department to come out to the house and test the water. He saw the particles ans said they definitely were not from the county water supply, but from the inside of my refrigerator.

The problem is that in order to replace the water line after the filter means replacing the freezer side door. Can you believe that?!! That is a major design flaw. Having to replace the entire door just to replace the water line is crazy ... but that's what I have to do.

I called frigidaire and told them straight away that I wanted to lodge a formal complaint. They realized my warranty had expired but they agreed to parts and labor to replace the freezer door. I just had to find an authorized figidaire repair facility to do the work. Its going on 5 weeks now and still no door. But the fact that frigidaire is willing to pay for parts and labor on a fridge out of warranty leads me to believe they know there is a major problem with the water line on this model.

Default wacky fridge water

Did you ever get a new door? The yuck in my ice has been really bad, then it seems to get better. The water dipsenser has had no problems, just the ice maker.
I wonder if there is a way to flush the line?
