Default Cleaning the Coils
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: TBX25
Age: More than 10 years

I have an old TBX25 by GE. This is a large volume over (freezer) / under (frig).

The freezer has not been as cold in recent days, so I checked under the front grill, where the coils are (under the fridge). It looked a mess. I could see all sorts of what I perceived to be lint on top of the coils. My owner guide said this needed to be cleaned annually, so I vaccumed it (hadn't been done in years I guess. Frig came with the house about a year ago)

Now I think perhaps that the gray lint may have been old insulation that had fallen on the coils, because there is more gray stuff under the coils. It feels fibrous. I do not feel much airflow over the coils and they are not very warm.

This morning I came down to find the freezer about frig temps and the frig about 60 degrees. A lot warmer than before I started cleaning the coils!

Did I screw something up by vacuuming the coils? Help, please!!

Unless you were especially brutal it wouldn't hurt to clean the coils. There is a fan near the coils that runs when the compressor runs. Does it? Is there any ice buildup in the freezer on the walls. If there is check defrost system. defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat.>>>TBX25 You may need to remove a panel to see if there is ice on the coils.
