Hi, The refrgerator side door on our side by side was left open by mistake for about 1.5 days. It now no longer cools. The fan is running but the compressor is not. Did I ruin the compressor? . I disconnected the relay from the compressor and it sounds like pieces inside it are rattling like it has been fried. Am I wasting my time with replacing the overload or capacitor or is it worth a try as this would be cheaper then a new compressor, Thanks Charlie

Charlie, I bet that compressor was hot as a pistol. The compressor shut off on the overload, because it senses heat. You most likely won't need a new a new relay, but it would be a good idea. Shut the box off for at least 5 hours, so that compressor can cool down, and it should work. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
