Unhappy Broken Icemaker
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

In purchasing a new house we aquired a Kenmore side by side refrigerator/freezer with ice maker and water on the door. Just a month after moving in the ice maker stopped making ice altogether, although the water dispenser works fine. I have no paperwork on this appliance and do not have the money to call a repairman if I can do something myself. Any ideas? What should I look at first? Thanks for your help.

Default I have had the same problem

I have the same problem with my Kenmore ( I have the same basic model) I replaced the motor and still no ice. I filled the ice tray up with water manually and the ice maker harvested the ice, but did not refill the water. I just ordered the solenoid water valve and will be replacing it as this seems to be the probelm. Their basiacally can be only a few problems. The motor, the thermostate, the solenoid, a blocakage of frozen water in the water supply line, or the emitter boards. I would try filling the tray manually and once it is frozen it should harvest if the motor and thermostat are working. You can by the whole replacement kit on E-bay for less than $100. So go there before you go to sears or one of the discount suppliers. Good luck. I will let you know how mine turns out. I hope to get the solenoids by the weekend.
