Default Bought new Kenmore Ice maker and not working?
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.71272101
Age: 5 - 10 years

I purchased a replacement ice maker (part #PS172234) and finally put it in. Installation was a snap, just unscrew 3 screws and unclip 1 wiring harness, clip wiring harness onto new ice maker and screw screws. That easy. The problem is that its not moving? The metal bar is down so it should fill up (water is connected and running through lines). The "fingers" that remove the ice have not moved. I removed the screws and double checked I had the wires clipped in correct and they were fine. Anyone have any Ideas what this could be? My old one made lots of unusual noises before it died, so we knew it was on its way out. Partsselect.com customer reps tell me this is the correct icemaker for the unit? Thanks

Check your freezer temps. Should be below 15 degrees. Also check for frozen fill tube in freezer and make sure it will dump water in the icemaker. You can hot wire the water solenoid also to check for water to icemaker.

Thanks but it actually started working about 30 minutes after it was plugged in. I guess it was in the middle of a cycle. Put it has made at least 3 or 4 batches of cubes in the last 18 hours.

What would cause a fill tube to freeze? It should drip clear after a tray fill, so a shut off valve may be faulty? Is this the "smart valve" I see in the parts list? I ask because this is apparently what has happened to my 1 1/2 yr old Kenmore Elite side-by-side. It made ice like clockwork until the other day and I have eliminated (well, maybe) all other causes. Is best way to thaw it to hold a hair dryer to it?

Thanks for any help or insight.
