Default Bi-metal Defroster Thermostat
Brand: Amana
Model Number: SCD23Vl
Age: 5 - 10 years

My evaporator fan stoped workinng. I jumped the defroster t-stat and it works fine. I ordered a new one and it arrived in two days WOW. The new one is installed and I find myself looking at a fan that is not turning. I removed the new part and hooked up a DVOM and the circut is open. I have chedked it at room temp and cold after I lelt it in the basment freezer for a time and is still is an open circut. I "assume" this is a normally closed device that will at a preset range open the circut to allow for the evap to warm up and drain off the moisture accumulated on the fins. I believe my new part is falty. Where can I find values the t-stat should Ohm out at? Thanks and Peace!

How long did you leave it in the freezer in your basement?

The thermostat closes at about 25 degrees so it would have to be there for awhile.

Here is a link to your fridge model scd23vl.
