Default Auto defrost problem?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MSD2756AE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I've got a Maytag Plus Side by side that periodically leaks water from the bottom of the freezer from the freezer door. Closer inspection reveals the bottom of the freezer covered with ice. I think it may be something wrong with the auto defrost but am not sure. Anyone have any suggestions?

You have a stopped up defrost drain tube. Look on the bottom of the back panel in the freezer. There is a trough under the evaporator coils that the water drips in and goes down the tube to a pan under the unit. The tube gets stopped up with dust, mold and mildew. It's stopped up at the top with ice. You'll have to remove the ice to see it. Pour a solution of bleach and water to kill mildew. Make sure it drains quickly. You can blow it out with air or a basting do hickey. Part 14 on this diagram.MSD2756AE Parts List

Thank you woodchuck. After posting I started reading through this section and found a few similar threads. Being a moderator on 2 forum sites I should have had the good sense to do that first. So I took the panel off at the back of the freezer (2 screws), had to give it a few whacks, it was semi-frozen in there. Once off I could see the whole assembly, I broke of what ice I could and then used a hair dryer and towel to melt the remaining and sop up the water since the drain wasn't working. Once I got everything not in the drain I boiled a little water and poured it in there. That did the trick for defrosting the drain. Then I used a compressed air can to blow the drain out. Didn't have any bleach so I'll open it back up and address that once I get some.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.
