Default Area around freezer door HOT!
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: HTS22GBPARCC
Age: More than 10 years

Recently, I have noticed that the ice cream in the freezer was soft. I checked the temperature and it is 22 F. Normally the ice cream is HARD. The thermostat is set on 5 on the freezer as it has been. I have found that the freezer is VERY HOT on the outside all the way around the freezer door. The heating comes and goes, but it is doing this several times per day and last for about 30 minutes. There is no FROST in the freezer.

ANy suggestions?

pull the fridge out from the wall and unplug it. Clean the dust and lint off the compreser and everything else. Also clean under the fridge. The frame around the freezer door should cool down. It worked for my sons Ge. refrigeerator. It's worth a try

Default Hot Door is now cool!

Thanks Jim Boo.
I did as you said, cleaned out the dust and found a dead mouse that was cut nearly in half by the fan blowing on the condenser coil. After the cleaning and getting the High Resistance (MOUSE) removed from the fan blades; the fan is working. The freezer is back to 0 degrees F and the door area is cool.

Gentlemen,

I had same problem. Frame between top freezer and bottom frig was VERY hot to the touch. I found your post and suggested fix.

I found the cooling fan had a bent fin??? This prevented it from turning. After vacuuming out coil (and everything else I could reach...) and bending fin tips back away from coil, problem is gone! Frame is now back to room temp - took all of an hour to recover.

I greatly appreciate your suggestions. I was stressing....

Regards
