Default Another warm fridge
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: S20B RBB20-A/G
Age: 1 - 4 years

I would be very grateful if someone could help me diagnose the fault with my side by side fridge freezer.

I know there have been many posts on the same subject, but not for this model. I was able to find a service manual at http://mail.whirlpool.co.za/data/par...8615201000.pdf so I can see the exploded diagrams.

Freezer appears to be ok, but the fridge is not getting cold enough. The sensor in the fridge is black - it should be green and say "OK", but it doesn't. The compressor is running, the fan at the compressor is working, the fan at the back of the freezer is working.

I cannot feel any cold air coming from the air diffuser motor which sits at the top left hand side of the fridge. Should I be able to feel cold air coming from here?

I've read all the other posts about defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If it is not the air diffuser motor, can anyone help me identify where these are in this model and how I can test them?

Thanks.

If you have a motorized damper door on the left side of the fridge, you probably have a jammed closed damper door, pull cable from motor and push door open half way. This should fix problem till you get another door.

Thanks for the reply Appguy. Since I sent the original question, I have discovered that the evaporator is very iced up and doesn't seem to be defrosting. I only saw this when we removed the covering panel at the back. I have been told this model does not have a separate circuit board for the defrosting function and that this is on the main pcb. Maybe I need a new one of those?

Oh, when you say "damper", do you mean the air diffuser that I mentioned?

Thanks.

Go to Appliance repairs, Appliancehelp, Appliances, repairs to dryers washers dishwashers fridges repairs microwaves ge maytag kenmore frigidaire westinghouse inglis, appliance how to take apart information, purchasing an appliance help, model number help, for manual defrost info, this will test your electronic defrost. If no defrost, but compressor stops and nothing happens to defrost, you should test while cold the defrost thermostat, a round thing clipped to the evaporator, and the defrost heater. Post results.

Thanks again, but I have looked everywhere and can't find the defrost timer on this model. The only place I haven't been able to look is behind the kick panel at the bottom because I can't seem to get this to come off. Can anyone confirm if that is where it is and I will try harder to get this off?

Just came back to post an update if it will benefit anybody else.

I have replaced both front and back circuit boards. The water thumping and flashing lights have stopped. The fridge is now cold and the built-in thermometer in the fridge is green and says OK. I never did find the defrost timer.

Again, for the benefit of anyone else, It is worth noting that the air diffuser does not blow cold air constantly. I know of course this makes sense as it would stop when the fridge has reached its correct temperature, but when I did not feel the air coming from it, I assumed there was a fault in the air diffuser when there was none. So try feeling for the air a few times. I would assume if it blows out at all then it is ok.

Thanks for a very useful forum.
