Default Another cold freezer warm fridge problem
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: ksrs27qdwh01
Age: More than 10 years

Hello,
i am have the same problem that I've seen several others have.

my fridge is too warm and it has spoiled two gallons of milk in the past 4 days.

i have read a posts and tried few things like turning off the freezer to see it defrosts and it does it also turns the compressor off as well. there is a vent in the top of the fridge that comes from the freezer side that blows cool air not cold. I have a set of what looks like coils in the lower part of the fridge behind the bottom two drawers that have some tubing running to them they seem to be cool but not cold. the temperature settings are set to the coldest settings for both the fridge and the freezer.

if anybody can tell me what the problem is, i would greatly appreciate it.

TIA
tbraddy

What you need to do is check for ice behind the back panel of the freezer. If there is ice your defrost system is defective. The defrost timing is controlled by the main board. Your owners manual may tell how to put it in the defrost cycle to check the heaters. Here is a link to your parts diagram. GE Appliance gsh25kgrebb Parts List
Turning the freezer off is not how to check the defrost system. When it goes into defrost it turns the freezer off until it finishes the cycle.

thank you, i did that and found ice on the coil and the bimetal aprt. cleaned it up put everything back togeth er and worked like it did before (fridge not cooling) for about 20 min. then everything went caput. I triedto move the fridge back and noticed that the compressor was very hot. tubing to and from the compressor is warm to the touch. is my compressor bad now too? i did everything right, I ran the diagnostics per the sheet from the bottom of the fridge and checked everything with a multimter and had no problems. but now do i have a bad compressor as well?

unplug the unit.. wait 20 minutes. also try to put ice (inside a towel) on top iof the compressor this will cool it down. make sure that your drain is not pluged.....if you had hard ice.. then your drain is pluged. did you test any of the defrost compnents? just by melting the ice is not going to solve your problem...it will work for about 3 days then it will be back to square 1.. make sure to test your defrost components. is it a model with new electronic board.. or does it have a timer??

it looks like you have a model with a manual timer.. do you know how to use an amp meter? if you do.. run the unit for about 2 days then put it into defrost and make sure the is defrosting... amke sure it gets out of defrost by itself... if it does not then you have a bad timer. if you don't have any amps while in defrost.. then you have a bad defrost component... even if you testd the heater with an ohm meter(continuity test) and tested good.. you could have a faulty "thermister" this is the round thing that sits on top of one of the cooling lines in the freezer section
