Default Amana Ice Maker overflow? leaks?
Brand: Amana
Model Number: Sdd22NBW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Water from the ice maker drips into the ice bin and locks all of the cubes together. This has gotten worse with time. I replaced the dual water inlet valve (PS171095) but the problem remains. I removed the ice maker from the freezer to physically inspect it, but I could not find any leaks. I suspect that it is overflowing. Any ideas?

It could be the water pressure at the valve that is causing your problem.

Water pressure is what closes the valve after the solenoid is released.

The pressure at the fridge must be at least 20 psi.

If the water line has a saddle type shut off valve this could cause your problem.

Red face Amana Ice Maker Leaks into Bin

Hi: I am having the exact same problem (Amana model ARSE664) and have not been able to resolve it. I took the ice bin out to determine where the leak(s) were coming from - it appears that both sides (front and back) of the ice maker unit leak water into the bin. When the water drips into the bin full of ice, it freezes locking all cubes together which makes the door ice dispense not work and the bin frozen shut most of the time.

I would be interested in knowing if you or anyone else have managed to find the solution to this problem. Thanks, Melanie

Locate the dual icemaker water solenoid in back of fridge. Next empty the icemaker mold, then use a "cheater" cord and apply 115 volts to the coil with the smaller output tube, fill for nine seconds. This should fill up the mold. If not you may have a frozen water tube in freezer. If yu still get leakage, you have a bad water solenoid.

It's fixed. I replaced the ice maker (PS172234) which was leaking. The original ice maker appears to use a porous metal for the ice tray that is covered in a black plastic(?) coating. Over time, some of the black coating disappeared from both inside and outside areas (the end positions had the most wear). This apparently allowed a slow drip to occur at each end of the tray every time it refilled with fresh water. (I tested this by manually filling it outside of the freezer.)
Thanks to those who offered advice.
