Our bottom freezer was not defrosting. Fridge was working fine but the freezer would only go to about 12 degrees F. There was frost on the back inner pannel so we removed the pannel and discovered ice and frost everywhere.
We thawed it out with a hair drier.
The connection to the heating coil was disconected. ????
Could ice have forced it apart?

The thermostat looks normal, no swelling.
How can I test the thermostat and or timer.

Ice should not have forced the wire off but it might have.

You can check the heating coil and the thermostat with an ohm meter.

The thermostat has to be at operating temperature to be tested.
