Default Amana bottom freezer
Brand: Please select
Model Number: ARB2257CSR
Age: 5 - 10 years

i have a 6 year old amana fridge freezer on bottom. A few days ago i started to here a buzzing sound every 3 min followed by a click. i assumed it was the compressor. i had a service guy come here and in 5 min he told me it was the compressor is dead and i need a new one..

I took off the overload relay and capacitor tapped them and put them back. its now running and getting cold again.
if the compressor was no good no more wouldnt it still not work? or will it eventually start doing the same thing again? they want over $600. to fix is it worth it. Thanks

Hello pipemannyc

On this model the relay(white one ) starts to fail and then it burns the compressor.
you may want to check the running amps on the compressor , but 9\10 time the damage is already done and the compressor has to be change.

Hope this helps
Mark

It will most likely cycle off at the right temp , and not come back on.
the relay may not start the compressor after getting warm. take the relay and hold it in your hand and shake it if you hear what sounds like bits of glass inside moving around get a new relay if not its about 500-700 to change it depending on the company.

The amp-probe test for amperage.

The compressor the a tech will install will not be the same quality as the old one.
Better(embraco compressor) and will last longer in most cases.

You can get new fridge tomorrow, service call, order part and install about a week.
