Question Allen
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: gss25jfmcc
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi my name is Allen and I use to work on appliance (am retired now not use to these new electronic appliances) My GE side by side quit working yesterday and I found the defrost heater element is bad. Have ordered a new one but need to know if that would shut down the whole unit? Nothing worked but the evaporator fan in freezer. Is this normal for this unit?
Thanks
Allen

No the heater should not have shut the unit down.

You likely have a faulty mother board.

GE has been having a lot of trouble with these board and have been replacing a lot of them at no charge.

It may be worth while to call GE and see what they will do for you.

Here is a link to your fridge model gss25jfmcc.

There is a technician sheet behind the kick plate tape to the bottom of the fridge.

Here is a number for General Electric
