Default Adaptive Defrost
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: msd2756dew
Age: 5 - 10 years

Purchased new Adaptive Defrost Assembly 61005988 (PS727531) and it has arrived.........

Info says:

The adaptive defrost assembly is located in the refrig compartment. This requires removing the panel which covers the temp controls and interior lighting. In the back right hand corner is the adaptive defrost circuit board. It has a six wire connector and is retained by two screws.

We have done that but can't find the assembly......(We have also lowered the heat sheild to take a peek (PS 106755).........Looking at the exploded diagram is no help..................Do we have to do some additional disassembly or could this be mounted somewhere else.....???????

Thanks,

Gary

The unit might have a white plastic cover, just look it's gotta be there.

Default Adaptive Defrost Assembly

Thank you for your response........

I had already received the adaptive defrost assembly (with a plastic cover)............I had performed some research prior to purchasing the assembly and knew that the existing adaptive defrost assembly may or may not have a cover, so I looked for both............Our refrige/freezer was a series 10 and somewhere between series 8 and 10 the cover was added to the assembly................I have a knowledge of electrical and electronic parts, so I wasn't too lost identifying it.........................Thought that this would be an easy job...........HA!

I did some addional disassembly..........Removed the heat sheild, auto dampner assembly housing, etc. and finally found it..............The adaptive defrost assembly didn't have a cover but had a folded paper copy of the schematic for the entire frige/freezer wrapped around it and then the entire thing was screwed into place.....?????.........

Not sure what was happening during the assembly of our refrige/freezer (we bought it new from Sears and has been never been repaired since we got it) as the adaptive defrost assembly was not located where the info said that it should be.............................And when I went to install the new assembly, the cable was not long enough to allow me to screw the assembly in place as the cover caused interference.......

I just wedged the assembly in place (stryoform is a great multifunctional material) and reassembled the fridge............Did some major manual defrosting and it is now functioning properly..............

I trust that others will not have this problem as it is probably just an isolated manufacturing issue...................
