Unplug the fridge and remove the light shield and the temperature control housing.

Connect the refrigerator to a watt meter.

Make sure the compressor is running.

Using and insulated number 22 jumper wire short between L1 and test, this will put the refrigerator into a defrost for approximately 23 minutes.

The watt meter should read between 500 to 600 watts depending on the model.

If you don't have a watt meter you will have to watch for the heater to come on.

Make sure the freezer is cold so the bi metal is closed or this will not work.

Here is a link to your fridge model JCD2389DEB.

I have tried your sugestion already , i shouold of added if/how or if the termostat on the defroster if it was bad would it keep the system from going into defrost? i can hear the relay click when i try to put it in defrost but it never seems to defrost , i have tryed this cycle a few times waiting a 1/2 between each thinkin the ice surely should be melted but im thinking i should just put in a new adaptive timer and change out the temostat/and element and just hope all the problems would be taken care of all at once what would you recomend?

From your description the adaptive defrost is bad : however I would check the defrost thermostat in the freezer and the defrost heater befor ordering the board.

Yes the thermostat will stop the fridge from defrosting if it is bad.

It is hooked in series with the heater.

The heater should read between 25 and 28 ohms to be good.

To check the thermostat it has to be cold to show continuity.
