Default Acid Burn from Fridg water
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: Gallery
Age: 5 - 10 years

The Water tank was recently replaced. Instead of a traditional tank there is a coiled tube system. The assembly was easy but, since the install, we have noted that the water has a burn to it when drinking. No other changes were made to the system other than this install. Has anyone heard of this problem before?

There is supposed to be a filter that is inside the fridge but we have never used it. Not certain if this would make a difference. The old tank system never gave us any concerns.

Thanks for your reply.

Why was the tank replaced in the first place? Was it due to minerals building up because you didn't use the filter?

Default Leaking

Thanks for your reply. Have had the fridge for 10 years and never used a filter. Baton Rouge has some of the best water in the world. Great taste and virtually no impurities or mineral deposits noted. We do not have water softeners. Everyone drinks straight from the tap.

The tank started to leak necessitating the replacement. They no longer sell tank reservoirs but rather a coiled tube system.

I also noted that there was a significant amount of bubbling and foam when the water was poured. After running a few gallons through it has stopped. I think the acid taste has diminished, if not disappeared, but still concerned about what it might mean.

Thanks again.

Default Still burning

Have tried to run water through system to purge acid burn, but it still persists.
It has become unusable since the repair from parts bought through this site. Can not to seem to get any reply from technical support and only one reply from fellow user.

Begining to think purchasing on-line was a mistake.

Anybody out there?

wow! that is a strange problem, you said a plastic? tank was replaced w a copper tubing cooler? Is the tubing from the water supply also copper? are any galvanized fittings in this line? Sorry for so many questions but the taste sounds like copper oxide which can occur in some cases where copper pipe is used with iron pipe in the same line. If your water supplier will test the water it would be worth finding out what's in it. Also does water from the other taps taste acidic also or just the fridge water?

Default Coiled tube plastic not copper

Thanks for your interest in my problem. Since the acid taste developed, we just stopped using the refridgerated water.

Water from other sources in the home are fine. In fact the coiled system is made of plastic not copper. Coincidently, just prior to replacing the water tank, I changed the plastic feedline from the water source. It had developed a pin hole leak. I exchanged it for a heavier reinforced tubing but don't think it has any metal content in it. When I turned the water source back on it had too much pressure in the line and caused a leak in the original water tank. A new system of coils has since been designed to replace the tank style.

This system is supposed to have an in-line filter. We have never used it as the water in Baton Rouge is so great straight from the tap. Perhaps, placing one in line would be the solution????

Again, thanks for your help.

Almost seems like you tapped into a hot water line!!!
I told a friend I had a lot of residue in my hot water and he said "are you sure you didn't tap into your sewer line!!"
