Default 2 part problem
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: gss25jepaww
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a two part problem with my fridge. The ice maker doesn't dispense ice and I hear no noise from it. Also my freezer isn't cold. It does have the ice on the back panel and coils. We had a power surge and that's when we lost the ice maker. It does dispense water. I wasn't worried about fixing the ice maker right away as I was dealing with other problems resulting from the power surge. About two weeks later, the freezer started acting up. Are the two problems related? Is it safe to assume that replacing the main control board will solve both problems? When I spoke with the repairman, on the phone, he said he would order the control board and call me when he was ready to install it. He never came out to look at the fridge. Since it is one of those items that can't be returned, I would like to know it is what I need. I've always been told that the ice maker and freezer are separate units. So hopefully that explains why I am confused now. In newer fridges, does the main board control the whole unit or just a part of it, such as the freezer?
I did read through past posts, but I found questions about the ice maker not working and questions about the ice on the back panel and the coils. But not both problems so please forgive me if this has been asked.
Thank You

The whole unit, sounds like a bad control board.
