Default Whirpool Double Oven Door Switch Problems.
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GBD307PDT09
Age: 1 - 4 years

Greetings repair gurus, I need your help desparately!

After replacing a bunch of parts in my double oven, the door switches are operating opposite of each other. So...when you have the upper oven door closed, you must leave the lower oven door open to get the upper oven to heat. If you don't, the panel reads "Door" until you open the lower oven. The same holds true when you with the lower oven. The upper oven door must be open or it reads "Door" on the front panel and the lower oven won't heat.

Now here is the history of how this all started. Sorry for the long read.

My 2.5 year old oven died while it was self cleaning. After learning that it was not under any warranty, I pulled the oven out and found a schematic inside. Having some electronics experience, I started going through the schematics and checking all of the test points as specified. I found the following things wrong:

1. The main control board was visibly fried at the upper double line break relay. It was literally melted.

2. The control panel thermal fuse was blown.

3. The upper oven shutdown thermal fuse was blown.

I replaced all of these and was able to power the oven up. However, the lower door latch kept cycling and giving an error. After tracing the wiring from the latch assembly, I found the reason why everything fried in the first place. The wiring harness from the lower latch assembly was hanging in the lower fan cavity. It was hitting the fan and actually wore a deep groove into the fan blades. Eventually, it wore through the wire casing and shorted out.

So . . . I replaced the wiring harness and the lower oven latch assembly. I also replaced the power control transformer, the latch sister board and the suppressor board for good measure.

Everything else seems to work fine except for the door switches working against each other.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Twig
