Default Whirlpool error code E1 F5
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: RF388LXG
Age: 5 - 10 years

I went to use the self cleaning oven this morning and I received an E1 followed by a F5 message. All buttons beep at me when I try to reset it. Can you please tell me how to reset the error code?

The E1/F5 code is telling you that there is a problem in the door lock circuit.

If the switches are work in then you will have to replace the clock control.

Check the switch with a meter.

Check the wiring.

Here is a link to your range model RF388LXG.

Default Whirlpool E1F5 fault code

My model number is RF396LXEQ. Does this code(E1F5) imply the latch motor needs to be replaced? If so, how do I get to it? From the back of the oven or does the ceramic top need to come off? Does the ceramic top just lift up or is it screwed in place?

Oven works fine other than not being to run self clean function.

Thanks
Jim

[Have you tried to wiggle the locking mech for the oven? I did that and turned off power to the stove for 5 minutes. When I restored power everything worked well again.

The E1 F5 code mean that there is a problem with the locking circuit.

This could be in the wires to the control or the door switch.

You do have to rise the top to access the latch if the motor is bad but be very careful because the top could crack if lifted to high.

There are screw along the front edge when you open the door to lift the top.

You should check the switch first.

Thanks for the replies.

Powering the stove off and on after 5 minutes did not resolve the problem.

As far as replacing the switch - do I have to lift the ceramic top to replace this?

Which diagram is the switch located in?

Which diagram is the motor located in?

Thanks

The door switch is located on the chassis breakdown. It is number 12.

You do not have to lift the top to replace it.

Your model has a locking solenoid that release the latch on the door which you can access from the back of the range.

The locking solenoid is also locate on the chassis breakdown. It is number 6.

The light in the oven goes on and off by pushing the door switch - can I assume the door switch is ok? I don't want to order a part if I don't have to?

There are 2 screws on the schemtic for the solenoid - can I use the screws on the existing solenoid - they are expensive to order?

Thanks
