Default What is coil select?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: not known
Age: More than 10 years

I've just moved into an apartment that has a 4-burner coil GE cooktop. Besides the usual burner controls, there's an extra 3-position switch (positions labeled 4, 6, 8) called "coil select". I can't figure out what this is supposed to do. Can anyone give any information? TIA eda

Mike, you were right after all. Three of the burners have a single coil, but the right-rear one has three, each with its own electrical connections . Selecting 4 on the "coil select" switch powers the inner coil, 6 powers that and the middle one, and 8 powers all three. I guess it's a warming setup, though the burners are so powerful that even the inner one would overcook in a short while.

I missed this the first time around 'cause I get around in a wheelchair & inspecting the back burners is a stretch. - eda
