Default Wall Oven Won't Heat
Brand: General Electric
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a wall oven that won't heat. When we set the Bake temp. it will not stay on. The oven doesn't even heat. It does the same thing when we try to set the Broiler temp. I am thinking it is the elements , but it is odd for both the Bake and Broil elements to be out at the same time. Somebody please help me with this. I can fix the elements but I don't want to call a repair man unless it is something else wrong.

OK I will try

First off after some hunting I think your model number is JKP17WT2WW

Here is a link to it
GE JKP17WT2WW Parts List

It could be the elements but I agree with you this is unlikely

Depending on the control board it could be an open temperature sensor.
These sensors raise the resistance as temperature rises so if it is open the oven may think the temperature is already well past set point and not turn on.
The sensor should measure around 1100 ohms at room temperature

Could be a wire has burned out on the back of the oven

It could be your control board

I looked at the parts breakdown and could not see a thermal fuse anywhere

Are you sure the unit is getting 240 volts

If you do not have one, I would purchase a volt/ohm meter. You can get a decent didgital one for under $20.00. Get one with at least 2 foot leads. If it saves you from purchasing one unnecessary part you have paid for it.

I was wondering if you guys put the unit in a clean cycle, and after it got done, it did not heat? I also researched for a thermal fuse. I am surprised it does not have one. Because that could very well be your problem. Check your breakers. Flip them off and on. Just because the clock works, does not mean you have all the power. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

If my problem is a sensor then what am I looking at cost wise. Is it hard for the average guy to repair.

It would cost 45 to 65 dollars, and what you have to do is pull the oven out, and take the back off and unplug the sensor, and then take the two screws out from the inside of the oven , and then pull it through. Tom
