Default Wall oven--what needs to be fixed
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: 9855XVB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Yesterday my oven just began making this loud grinding noise (it was not in operation at the time). The clock/control panel was blank like if the electric was off. I tried resetting the breaker, but as soon as I turned the breaker back on, it began grinding again. The oven light still turned off and on, but pressing any of the buttons on the control area had no effect. Then it popped and sparks came out the area between the top panel and the oven door. We have since turned the electric off to the unit. You could also smell a burning from the wiring, but we were not able to tell which particular part sparked. A call into a repair co. said it was probably the board (clock?). He said the part ran about $200 + $150 for labor to replace it. Does this sound like the clock/control needs to be replaced? And if so, it looks relatively easy to pop in and reconnect the wires. Any advice would be helpful. We want to do it ourselves and want to make sure we are ordering the correct part. Is it more complex than it looks?

Thank you.

Amy

The clock would not make a grinding noise but the motor for the door look would.

The first thing you will have to do is determine what part has failed.

This should be fairly easy where you seen sparks and can smell burning wires.

Here is a link to your oven model 9855XVB.

The door was not locked b/c when we opened the door and shut it, shortly thereafter the pop and sparks flew. They didn't seem to come from the clock, but the door lock mechanism (in the middle). I did look at your diagram. Is it possible the door lock went out?? But why would my clock control panel be blank and not show an error? I just need to know what part to order!! Is there a way to test and see what has malfunctioned before I order the part so I don't order the wrong one. Can you help? Or do I need to call a repair tech for $350?!?
