Default Trouble with burner unit on Jenn Air
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: SVE47100
Age: 5 - 10 years

The burner component on my JennAir stove isn't working. I'm wondering if this is a common problem. I purchased my stove from Sears and they will send out a technician to look and repair. If I only need a new burner unit then I will skip the technician step and order a new unit. The oven works fine and the side of the stove with the grill unit works fine. I have a JennAir Model SVE47100 (Sears parts and service gave me the model number of 629SVE47100W)

About a year ago I dropped a skillet on the stove top. It flashed red and since then the little green light indicating the burner is on is always on even when the knob is turned to off and unit is actually off. Both burners still worked.

Last week my daughter banged a skillet on the burner unit. The front burner flashed. Both burners worked for a while. The back burner stopped working first. Then the front started acting up. At first it would work one time and not the next. Finally the front one stopped working altogether although when you would turn it on it would get red and start to heat up then would quit. Now we get nothing.

Thanks for any help/reccomendations you can give me.

wrestlingmom, First of all NEVER Call Sears, they will eat you for breakfast. Now let me see if I understand you. This Jenn-aire has the burners in a seperate package. You can lift the whole assembly out. If so the problem you would most likely have is the burners are not making contact. Please correct me if I am wrong, because I pulled your model #, and they are not giving me a picture of your burners. So I will assume, that they are coil type burners. Take the whole assembly out of the oven. To do that, lift up the back, and pull it back to unplug from stove. Now, pull 1 of the burners out, and what the burners plug into is most likely your problem. They are called burner blocks. What you have to do to replace them is take all the 1/4" screws out of the assembly, and it will crack like an egg. Cut the wires to each of the burner blocks, and replace them with the new ones. You will have to strip the ends of the wires that you cut, and the kit that they will give you at the part house, has wire nuts to put on the end of the wires when you put them together. You can do this. If you need me, you can get me on my web site, at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
