Default Top oven bake cycle does not work
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JTP56BW1BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

GE model JTP56BW1BB

Neither the bake element or the convection element will heat up under the bake or convection bake cycle of the top oven- there is no visible damage anywhere in the elements - Broil cycle for the top oven works fine and the broil/bake for the bottom work fine as well.

I replaced the control panel about a year ago (not the computer) - all controls appear to work properly.
any suggestions for further testing or parts replacement?

If the rest of the oven is working fine and you are not getting error codes I would check the wiring.

There may be a wire that has burnt off.

Here is a link to your oven model JTP56BW1BB.

Thank you and I will check the wiring.
However, the bake element shown on the diagram is not the one that is in my oven.
The element I have resembles more like the broiler element shown with one additional loop. The bake element shown on the diagram is a simple loop.
Am I looking at the correct model?

Question wiring checked

I checked the wiring from the control panel to the heating element and have continuity.
No wires in the area behind the panel appear to be damaged or burnt.
I got brave and hooked up a volt meter to the two leads that get plugged in to the heating element, turned the breaker on, set the cycle to bake, pressed the door switch and did not get any voltage. I do hear the click but nothing happens after that.

I tried the broiler and I do hear a click followed by heat.
The convection heating element does not work either.
No error codes displayed in the panel.
any suggestions?
thanks in advance for any help

Verify the element is good, like measure it's ohms, if blown open you may have blown out the bake relay on the control board.

Default element verified

I checked the element and all looks ok. I am reading some resistance with the ohm meter which tells me the continuity is there. Is there a number I should expect?
Also there was no power going to the element when I put the volt meter to the two leads that plug into the heating element.
The fact that the convection heating element does not work also looks suspicious.
Both bake and convection elements are plugged into the board near each other which appears they are sharing the same relay.
Can one replace just the relay?
any other suggestions?

Relays don't usually fail without a element blowout. Just replace the control module.

Is a part such as the control panel returnable?
I am concerned since it appears that the original part is no longer made (WB27K5272) and there is a bit of a missmatch between the diagrams shown and the model of appliance I have.
On the other hand, I do have the part number for the control panel so I can not see a missmatch issue with that.
Are instructions provided for the "rewiring" of the control panel?

Also remove pc board and look underneath. I just fixed a fridge pc board when the relay just unsoldered itself under the pc board!1 I just resoldered it.

Default bake cycle

replaced control panel - all works now.
Instructions are terrible - you would think that with a $350 part one could get some original instructions and not something copied at least 1,000 times.
better instructions could have saved a lot of time.
Thank you all for your help.
