Default Surface elements on stovetop not working
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 911.9358810
Age: More than 10 years

After cleaning the elements on my stove top I preceded to re-connect them. I turned on the burners and there was a loud "POPING" noise. Two of the elements are no longer working. Do I need to replace just the elements or could it be the wiring? Two of the four burners are still working!

thanks...

Same thing happened to my kenmore. I know it was either Home Depot or Lowes that I bought all new elements-new receptacles that the elements plug into-and new Black 6" and 8" bowls.I changed the recepatacles because they were melted and u had to shake the element to get it to work.two were bad and i decided to change all 4.I changed all the elements because the metal support under the element that goes into the slots on the bowls were trashed. Finally I swapped out the chrome bowls that also were looking kind of nasty for some sleek black ones.Looks really good against my white stove. You can check your elements to see if their any good by doing a continuity check with a multimeter. You didnt say if it was both the 6"ones or both the 8" ones or one of each,if its one of each just swap it with the one thats working but im sure you allready thought of that.Hope this thread helps.I believe the kenmore is made by GE.

Thanks for the excellent advice and super fast response...tested coils with a multimeter, as suggested, and they are fine. Is there a way to test the terminal blocks ???

Yes,remove the element and turn on the dial to hi-set multimeter to 500 AC and insert probes where the element plugs into, should read about 240 volts. If still no voltage is present, turn stove off, cut and strip the wires about a half inch, 4 inches behind the receptacle.making sure the wires dont come into contact with each other and are not touching any metal, turn stove back on and place the multimeter leads-one lead per wire and check for voltage again,if no voltage is present then your dial is no good-but i doubt if its your dial, hope this helps.
