Default Stove top extremely hot while baking
Brand: Kelvinator
Age: More than 10 years

I do several hours of cookie baking at the time-anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, usually at 350 degrees. The top of my stove top gets so hot I can't hold my hand on it. I noticed while using my MIL stove today, her newer smoothtop does also. Hers is somewhat newer, but at least 10 years old. Is it normal for a stovetop (all burners off except oven) to get this hot while baking? If not, what is the solution. This stove of mine is probably close to 20 years old, as I have owned the house more than 12 years and it was here at move in. Thank you for your help. Jan

Default

It is very normal for the top of the stove to get hot.

There is only a thin piece of insulation between the oven cavity and drip shield.
