Default Smooth top Burner won't turn off
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: unkown
Age: 5 - 10 years

Used stovetop this morning and turned burner off. Next thing I know the burner is red hot and is stuck on. Moved knob around several times with no luck... right fron element was red hot an would not turn off. Had to unplug stove. Is this a common occurence with the knob going bad or something more involved? Unable to find a model number ut looks like this one... http://www.frigidaire.com/support/FA...ooth_Range.asp any ino would be greatly appreciated- knob feels like all the other knobs with regards to movement. Knob in off position when red hot

Thanks!

The switch has failed.

Your model number can be found on the frame of the stove where the drawer closes.

It will be on a tag with the serial number.

I appreciate your knowledge with my question! Lastly- we had called a repair service and they want 75 bucks just to look at it. When you say switch I assume your talking about the small white square on the backside of the stove knob that has the small wire harness hooked to it (basically each knob has a switch on the backside with wires hooked to it) Is this correct? Thanks soooo much!!!

Yes that is the part that you will need to replace.

You will need your model number to order the part or the part number off of the switch.

Default about that switch...

One last question... I unhooked the switch that goes to that burner and plugged in the stove and the stove beeped repeatedly (telling me the wire was unhooked) but the burner still heated up- does that still mean the switch is bad or something else? I woud of thought unhooking the wire on the back of the control knob would of made the burner shut off. Is there a way to test to make sure what the problem is? Thanks so much for taking time to give me information.

Default burner always hot

UNhooking the potentiometer wire from the right front burner does nothing which would suggest it is not the problem. HOWEVER, if I remove the P7 wire which is for the inner coil on the surface control board the burner shuts off. There does not appear to be a switch between the control board and the display unit like the schematic shows (called a temperature limit switch). Is it safe to say the surface unti control board is bad?

Sorry without your model number I did not realize that you had an electronic model.

That would indicate another problem.

Can you please supply your model number?

Default model #

PLEF398CCB is the model number for the frigidaire stove. I am suspecting the computer board that the P7 wire plugs into is bad. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

I have had the same problem with a similar model. Please see my post:

http://forums.partselect.com/range-r...ries-9554.html

This is serious safety concern in my opinion. I like to have you add to my thread you experience with this problem and how it was (if at all) finally resolved. Thanks,

- Pinbyte
