Default Smell Of Gas
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PGR5710BDQ
Age: 1 - 4 years

A Repair Man Came To Our Home 10 Days Ago. We Called Because We Had Left The House And The Oven Was Left On. We Returned And Smelled Gas. The Repair Guy Came And Told Us It Was In Need Of A New Gas Valve. He Would Order It And Be Back In A Few Days. Meanwhile He Turned Off The Gas To Both The Oven And Stove Top. We Have Been Getting Stories About The Part Is On "back Order". This Seems Like Baloney To Us. Should We Look Elsewhere And Is This A Common Problem Witht This Range?

Very rare to have a bad gas valve, but a fitting to it might be bad causing a leak. Sometimes servicers loosen a fitting to check things and when tightening accidentally cross thread a fitting.Take a look at your gas valve and check for a cross threaded fitting. I have seen burner gas valves leak due to wear out, but never a oven valve, no moving parts, just a solid cast housing and two fittings.
Also, suppliers usually don't have these in stock and have to order from the manufacturer.
I assume we are talking about the dual bake/broil gas valve under the oven tray. There is a regulator valve that can leak.
Here is a link to your range model PGR5710BDQ.
