Unhappy Self cleaning latch won't release
Brand: Hotpoint
Age: More than 10 years

I did a long overdue thorough cleaning of my 28yr old Hotpoint range/oven. I decided to use the self cleaning feature which I hadn't done in over a year. The light came on and it heated up, but now 12 hours later, the oven remains locked and I can't get the latch to release. How can I get into the mechanism to release it. I hate to pay a repair bill if its something fairly simple- especially for such an old oven.
Thanks for any help you can give me. ( family is hungry!)

Can you please supply your model number.

It can be found on a tag on the frame where the drawer closes.

Default ? model number

I cannot locate the model number, if there was one on the frame around the drawer, its rubbed off. What I can tell you is that it is a "drop in" Hotpoint from around 1980 with front burner and oven controls and a clock and timer for baking and cleaning. Thanks for trying to help me. We're trying to find a way to lift the cooking surface off, but don't know how to go about that.

Not on the drawer itself it would be on the frame of the range.

You will likely have to pull the range out and take the back off to release the door.
