Default Replacing bad touchpad / ERC
Brand: Jenn-Air
Model Number: JDS9860AAP
Age: More than 10 years

I am trying to access the control panel for the JDS9860AAP oven but cannot get the front panel off. I have read where others have had the same problem. I already have all of the diagrams and have removed all of the screws I see. The front panel seems loose, but I am afraid I will tear it apart if I pull any harder. Is there a hidden latch or catch that I need to release? Model is year 2000 I believe.

Default Jenn-Air range cooling fan not running causing touchpad overheat and F1????

I am using your Jenn-air service manual you provided to troubleshoot my touchpad (F1 error) problems. The touchpad actually appears to be working fine for a while. After heating up for about 30 minutes, I get the F1 error. I notice that the touchpad area right above the door is hot to the touch. I noticed that the fan ( small cooling fan in rear electrical panel area not the convection fan) in the rear of the oven is not running while it is in bake mode. Should it be running right now, and is my problem likely that the touchpad is overheating because it is not getting cooled. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot the fan.

Also, I have ohmed the temp probe already and it checks out fine.

Thanks.

Sorry about that but from your original post I thought you were just having problems opening it up.

When you said you had all diagrams I assumed you had the wiring diagram otherwise I would have searched a little deeper to find you one.

I do have the wiring diagram, but it's a pretty bad copy that I can't read most of. I will look on that Maytag site to see if there is a better copy. if you have a clean copy, I'd appreciate if you would send it if you have time.

I was having problems opening it up but I finally figured it out. There are four screws under the burner control knobs that hold the front of the control panel to the oven. The manual you sent makes no mention of them.

It's when I got inside the panel and reconnected the ribbon cable that seemed to fix eerything but after I had left the house that day, my tenants claimed the same thing happened. I am pretty sure the touchpad board is fine although it has a lot of discoloration that indicates its been heated up too high many times before. The relays work cycle and the temp sensor input seems fine because the touchpad display correlates well to my res. measurement on the temp probe. The elements turn off when it reaches the right temp, but after a while it justg shuts down with F1 fault. I notice at the time that the touchpad is extremely hot and that the cooling fan is not running.

Here is a copy I sent you on Private Message, just repeating it in case it did not get through

Perhaps this will help a little

Range Duel Fuel Slide In Tech Information actually has a wiring diagram and additional info. fan has a thermostat in-line with it and is not controlled by the control board. I am not sure if this fan is supposed to come on during normal operation.

Problem may be a poor connection in the control panel which opens when heated. Disconnect the plugs etc, clean with some electronics cleaner and reconnect. Use the cleaner sparingly, be gentle with a clean toothbrush, make sure all the cleaner has evaporated before trying the oven (cleaner is volatile and flammable)

The edge connectors on a ribbon cable can be cleaned by gently rubbing with a pencil eraser (do not use and ink eraser)

Thanks, again. I have disconnected and reconnected several times. Haven't tried the cleaner but I imagine all the working of the contact surfaces has probably cleaned them off pretty well.

I removed the cooling fan and bench tested with a 120 VAC source, and it worked fine. I am on to checking out the thermostat next. If that isn't the problem, I'm lost. I know the 120V transformer is good because the convection fan is fed from the same set of terminal blocks and it is working fine.

I'll keep working at it. Thanks for the tip on that site though.
