I don't have any information on the Thermador product line but most gas tops or even electric ones you have to disconnect them and take them out of the counter.

Once you have the unit disconnected you have to unscrew the burner caps and unscrew the top from the base.

Can you please verify your model number as I can't locate it in our database.

I realize the original post is from a while ago, but for future reference..

To remove the maintop from this model you'll need to do the following:

1) Unplug the power.
2) Remove the grates, caps and knobs.
3) Using a 20mm socket you'll unscrew the hex-head venturi tubes that hold the burner bases down.
4) You then remove the bases after disconnecting the spark wire from the igniter.

Now, unless I'm forgetting something, you should be able to remove the maintop from the cooktop - while the cooktop is still installed in its cutout.
