Will replacement light bulbs (Sylvania 50W12V spot) work for my range hood? The cost difference is quite substantial from the part referenced in my book. The lights quit working last year, and I tried replacing the bulbs with those listed above; I have changed the circuit board and fuses. But something keeps blowing the fuses. If the bulbs aren't my problem, should I try replacing the transformer?

As long as the bulbs that you are using are 50 watt 12 volt they would not be the problem.

The fuse must be a 5 amp 125 volt fuse.

When is the fuse blowing?

Is it when the lights are on by themselves or when both the lights and fan are on together?

Here is a link to your range hood model zv950sd2ss.

The lights will work for a short period (minutes) before going out again. And it occurs when they're on without the fan. It worked great for the first 2+ years we had it, but I haven't found the cause of the problem yet. Any suggestion? And my goodness, I could kick myself for ordering expensive light bulbs if MUCH less expensive ones work!

If it was a short circuit the fuse would blow instantly.

Check to see if there is a loose connection in the light socket causing the fuse to heat up and open.

The (expensive) light bulb I ordered on this site, together with new fuses have fixed the problem. The bulbs were 20 watt, not 50, and I must have been blowing fuses because of that! I had 2 different repairmen (one was the GE rep) look at my unit and not one of them figured that one out...Thank goodness I now have working lights after 2 years of doing without!
