Default Range elemet melted with a flash
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JBP26WB4WW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My wife called me at work in a panic today about a "fire" in our oven. I asked for a further description when I got home. She had the oven running at 350 for about ten minutes, saw a bright white flash in the oven and the smoke alrms started going off. Upon further inspection, the bottom element melted about 5 inches from the bakc wall of the oven. There is now a break in the element.

My question is: for an oven that is three years old, is this normal? Should I just replace the element, or could there be something else wrong that could burn up the next element that I get? Any dangers? It is a spectra oven.

Thanks

An element is like a light bulb it can go at any time.

There is nothing to say that the next one won't last ten years.

The element should be the only thing that needs to be replaced.

Here is a link to your range model JBP26WB4WW.
