Range elemet melted with a flash Brand: General Electric Model Number: JBP26WB4WW Age: 1 - 4 years My wife called me at work in a panic today about a "fire" in our oven. I asked for a further description when I got home. She had the oven running at 350 for about ten minutes, saw a bright white flash in the oven and the smoke alrms started going off. Upon further inspection, the bottom element melted about 5 inches from the bakc wall of the oven. There is now a break in the element.
My question is: for an oven that is three years old, is this normal? Should I just replace the element, or could there be something else wrong that could burn up the next element that I get? Any dangers? It is a spectra oven.
