Question Range door won't close
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MER5755QAS
Age: 1 - 4 years

My range door would make a popping sound when I would close it and now it won't close all the way. It stays open like I am broiling something. I think the spring is gone or maybe the door hinge.

Here's your parts breakdown so you can order the parts...

Sounds like you're thinking in the right area alright. I'd ask you to make sure you can push the door shut maybe by hand even if it flops open. This won't be always possible with a broken hinge, but since I can't see it it will maybe make it easier for you to tell if this feels like where the problem is and not that someone has rested a heavy turkey or roast on the oven door when it was open and possibly bent the actual door. I've seen that happen a few times, I also have a 3 year old running around my house who thinks opening the oven door makes for a handy step to get up higher into things he's not supposed to.

You also might want to check the hinges. On some models they have a adjustment on the hinges. If you took the door off the hinges, and it has a screw on top of the hinges, you can screw the screw up or down to adjust the height of the door. I don't have the hinge in front of me, and the picture that Mr. Ampdraw, gave you is not the greatest picture for detail. I looked at other pictures, and they are the same picture that Mr Ampdraw gave you. So take the door off, and see before you spend your money. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Yes ,I can close it if I push it closed. I took the stainless part of the door off last night and I can see the springs and hinges now. When I push it closed the spring that is attached to the hinge snaps back and hits the door and that is what the loud popping sound that I heard previously was.
