Question Posessed GE Cooktop Fan
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JP389BD1BB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Late last evening, my GE Cooktop top fan started running without being turned on. I tried to turn the unit off by turing the fan knob on top of the cooktop to an on position and back to the off position. This had no effect. I opened the doors to look underneath and heard a "crackingling" sound coming from the unit that houses the wires and relay. I then tried to shut the unit off again by lifting the knob from the top of the cooktop, replacing it and turning the knob to to all three on positions and back off again. This time the unit did turn off. I cut the power off to the unit.

Any ideas on what the problem may be?

I have a similar problem but with my GE cooktop. I just received a new grill module (my other one burnt out) and as soon as I plug it in the fan comes on with the switch in the off position. Moving the switch doesn't seem to help.
