Default Oven won't shut off when over 400 degrees
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: JGBS23WEB1WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

my GE gas range's oven won't shut off when baking at temperatures higher than 400 degrees, unplugging the electric cord and waiting for 5-10 minutes to repower works
a similar posts reply suggests the thermostat or gas valve [does that mean gas safety valve?], how would I differentiate between the thermostat or gas valve

When you say it will not shut off do you mean the it will continue to heat past the 400 degrees until you unplug it?

Do you get any codes in the clock display?

Here is a link to your range model JGBS23WEB1WW.

hi sheila, when my stove goes into melt down the clock doesn't flash any codes just keeps showing the correct time and the temperature at different times either maintained what it was set at or continued rising, the highest its gone is 550 according to the internal thermometer before I've un plugged it
thanks

Your thermostat control has gone bad.

Here is the thermostat.
