Default Oven won't light
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: RGB528GER4WH
Age: More than 10 years

My oven won't light, although everything else works. It is gas with an electric ignition. Could it be simply a matter of getting a new ignitor? Or, something else? I found the replacement ignitor but it is a $75 risk.
thanks for any help, I like trying to fix these things myself.

Hi from Alaska.......
I have the same problem with a Tappan LP Range I purchased from Sears. They are made by Eltrolux Home Products in Georgia 1-877 435 3287. These ranges all have the same weak link.... the ignitor has to draw a certain amount of amperage in order for the safety valve to release the gas. Our range is about 5 years old and we have gone through 5 of these ignitors at about $75 a crack plus shipping. This is a very very poor design and it keeps the appliance repairs stores busy. We bought into the ignitor design to save money on propane but have wound up paying more for parts than to use the old pilot light system. The only thing I can think of that would correct this problem would be to ask Electrolux (please give them a call) to come up with an inline electrical fix that would draw more amperage and allow the gas to release when the glow plug or ignitor comes on. We are very unhappy with Sears over this purchase and vow to never again purchase a Sears appliance. Prior to this Sears was the go to company for all our appliances - large and small. People need to call Electrolux and complain. Maybe they will do something.
