Default Oven won't function
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: gw395lepb00
Age: 1 - 4 years

The oven bake feature will not come on, and the broiler will only come on HIGH, with no temperature adjustment. If the BAKE and temp arrow (up) are pressed at the same time, the "oven cleaning " feature comes up. The clock and timers work fine. I have ordered part # ps1155938 - touch pad. Do I also need the electronic control board ? Any info. will be appreciated.

The touch pad or the electronic control board is not likely the problem.

Usually when either of these are at fault an error code will be displayed.

Check the bake igniter it may be weak and holding the valve open to allow gas in to ignite.

The igniter may glow but may be weak and not able to open the valve.

The igniter should draw between 3.2 and 3.6 amps to open the valve.

Here is a link to your range model gw395lepb00.

Sheila,
I replaced the touch pad, # ps1155938, and the range and broiler now function correctly. In the past there have been electric power surges in our area, and a pot of water that was heating over-boiled onto the front of the range. I'm guessing that one or both of those instances caused the problems with the electonics in the range. Thank you for responding to the question I posted.
