Default Oven Will not bake, flashes "auto self clean" light
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: RB787
Age: 5 - 10 years

It is a Hotpoint RB787

All of the top "eyes" work, as does the clock and all the buttons. Also, I can turn the unit to auto self clean it the top element will come on.

It will not allow me to dial a temperature or set the unit to broil. When I do that, the temp that i selected comes up for a moment then the screen blanks outand the "Auto Self Clean" light just flashes.

If I DO select auto self clean, it seems to want to do that. BUT I noticed the bottom element does not come on. (I do not know if it is supposed to though.)

I have taken out the bottom element and probed it. It has continuity around 24ohms and neither terminal is shorted to ground.

I have also reset the circuit breaker at the panel and have had no luck.

Any Ideas?

Can you please supply the rest of your model number?

The number should be on a tag on the frame with the serial number where the drawer closes.

Default Hi Sheila

The FULL model number is RB787Wb1WW

I did some fact finding over the weekend and was told I need a new clock control. I ordered it from you last night. It is part #PS239445

I hope this is the right part and fixes the problem. What are your thoughts?

I would also like to state that your customer service is absolutely OUTSTANDING!! I accidentally chose mastercard on my order for my Visa card last night. I called an was almost immediately transfered to a customer service rep that spoke english, was VERY helpful and told me that everything was OK. THEN, tonight when I got home, I checked the status of my order and discovered the item was shipped this morning AND i would receive my item TOMORROW!! Talk about SUPER FAST!! Thank you. GREAT JOB!!!

repair went PERFECT!!! Thank you!!

I have another question.....The bottom bake element, which I pulled out to test originally, has now broken off its two support brackets. Is this something I should worry about?? It touches the bottom of the oven now.

Is there anyway to repair this? I thought about soldering but with the temperatures, I was not sure if this would work.

You should replace the bake element.

The element will damage the line if it lays on it.
