The oven on my GE electric range will not heat in bake or broil mode. I suspect the oven control but I don't want to just do a shotgun approach to a repair since the part is close to $100. Am I on the right path? How can I troubleshoot this?

Check the wiring to the control.

Check the voltage to the control, you should have 240 volts.

Are there any code in the display

Hi Sheila,

I will check the voltage. There are no codes in the display but do I need to do something to see the codes?

Initially, the oven would not bake but would broil. I purchased a new bake element on-line. By the time the element arrived in the mail, the broiler stopped working also.

I think it is the control module behind the display panel that controls the bake and broil functions. However, I found out that I can only buy the panel with the module attached and that is $250 so I hate to buy it to find out that's not the problem.

The codes will show without you doing anything.

Check your voltage and let me know what you have.

Check it going in and out of the control.
