Post Oven will no longer light
Brand: Magic Chef
Model Number: CGR1420BDQ

My oven is labeled as a Magic Chef up top, but down on the tag it just says Maytag, I have been able to locate parts lists and a local appliance parts store told me I probably need an igniter. Since this stove was purchased I have had to really watch items in the oven, and it always seamed to take much longer than recipes suggested to finish cooking. I had assumed that it was just due to it being fairly cheap and not well insulated. Over the past couple years of very sporadic use it had started to shut itself off (meaning the ovens gas supply) well before it reached temperature. Then finally it would just not come on at all, but the igniter thing in the bottom does still glow orange when I turn it on. I thought this would indicate a need for a thermostat or some sort of sensor to tell it that it needs to light and stay lit long enough to get hot, but the guy at the store says I probably only need the igniter, because they do often burn out or get to a point where they do not go on all the way or stay on. Does this sound right? I do not have the resources to buy a new stove or a lot of unnecessary parts, but I really would like the use of my oven again. Since the igniter does glow orange while the oven knob is on, but it never actually turns on the gas or lights, does that indicate any other parts that I should buy and replace at the same time? ....... thanks who can offer advice

In the case of gas appliances, it's best to book a service call.

Good luck!
