Default Oven stuck in "Clean" mode
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: RDB305PD
Age: 5 - 10 years

We have a Whirlpool double oven. The other night, it locked in "Clean" mode while we were cooking with it, and it won't go out of that mode. It's done this in the pace. The circuit board on it has been replaced twice.

It has to be shut off at the circuit breaker, and if I turn on the breaker, the oven immediately goes into "clean" mode with a buzzing of the door every 5 seconds or so (to release the hatch, which immediately recatches until the next buzz.) Opening the door does not shut off the oven.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Default

It could be one of the switches in the door lock circuit or it could be that the control has failed.

When the door locked in to the clean mode did the over temperature start to climb or did it continue to bake at the set temperature?

Can you please verify your model number as there seem to be some digits missing at the end.

Default Oven's behavior

When it started, I'd set it on a specific temperature and time to cook some chicken - it cooked at that temperature and for that time, and then started to climb from there. Attempts to turn it off by pressing "Oven off", turning the temperature down, or setting the time to one minute all failed. I hit the circuit breaker and left it off for a day and tried to turn it on again, and it went right into cleaning mode.

Leaving the circuit breaker off still did not allow the door to release - to do that I'll probably have to open it while it's buzzing and then turn off the breaker again.

The control seems like the more likely fix (unless somehow locking the door turns on the cleaning mode rather than vis versa) but wouldn't changing out the circuit board in front fix that? We're on our third board. Am hoping you say, "No" and have another suggestion Thanks.

Default Updated information . . . .

First, the full model number is RDB305PD81.

Now - some interesting behavior, which suggests it might be the switch - I manually pushed the latch all the way to the left after having the problem, and it seems to have made the problem go away. Held it there while it was buzzing, and that seems to have fixed it. For now. But we'll see if the issue comes back, and if it does, I'll try to replace the switch.
