everything else on this oven works , except the start button, any ideas on what may be wrong. my idea is that one of the threads in the ribbon cable is broken....if so how do I get a replacement.

First off you will need a Model Number

Would also suggest you get a volt/ohm meter to check continuity
You can get a decent digital multi meter for under $20.00. You do not need a fancy one. Get one with leads a couple feet long.

It is OK for repair people to do plug and chug. They have the parts . You have to buy the parts and most places will not let you return electronic boards. So you want to be as sure as possible that the part you order is the part you need.
