Default Oven overheats
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: RBS275PDS16
Age: 1 - 4 years

The other day while I was cooking, I noticed that the oven was getting extremely hot. The "HEAT" indicator on the control panel was not lit but the lower element was on and would not go out until I hit the OFF button. I know this normally indicates welded relay contacts. My question is, Is the relay part of the control board? or is it a separate component. If part of the control board, can just the relay be replaced? Are schematics available for the board? I am an electronic tech, so soldering in a new relay would not be beyond my capabilities.

Thanks.

Boy I can see where you can spend $400 for control module for this!! Usually relays don't fail unless there is a element blowout. Might want to see if there are any burnt ribbons on module, otherwise must determine if this stove is worth that kind of money. Go to partselect for more info.
Also check your oven sensor resistance, might just need that replaced.

Thanks for the reply. For some reason, the oven is working OK now. I priced the control module and found it for about $145, but I won't replace it unless it happens again.

$400 ??? I didn't pay that much for the oven brand new three years ago.

Love shopping the internet.

You are one of the lucky ones, somehow your electronic module re-set itself. If it happens again you might try turning power off for awhile.
