Default Oven NOT Heating
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FGF379WESP
Age: 5 - 10 years

When trying PREHEAT function broiler comes on (although BAKE & ON msgs. display). When trying BAKE TEMP button the oven's glow igniter comes on, but the burner never lights.(Again, BAKE & ON msgs. display.) After 4-5 mins., you hear a small click (like a valve is opening) and get a faint gas odor, but still no ignition. I haven't measured resistance on the igniter and I'm not exactly sure if it's functioning properly. It glows brightly, but its glow seems to be concentrated at the center and not along its entire length. I don't know if this is normal.

Should the broiler ever come on in PREHEAT mode? I never paid any attention before but this seems counterintuitive since the owner's manual says no need to preheat for roasting and I could see times when this might not be a good set up --but maybe I'm wrong.

It sounds likely the igniter is weak.

If it is not drawing the proper amperage the valve will not open.

Here is a link to your range model FGF379WE.
