Default Oven intermittent shut-off
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GRSR3920WW-2
Age: 5 - 10 years

ERC Controller board: Robertshaw 100-01176-00 CAMCO p/n 187D1914P001

Troubleshooting to date:

- with sensor unplugged; F2 error is displayed
- Bake and broil elements at correct (cold) resistance
- Oven control unit replaced with new unit- but problem persists

Problem:

At random, the controller shuts off the oven, (elements off- and also oven light turns on), If I attempt to re-start the oven, it will sometimes work fine, sometimes repeat several times or wait. Does not seem to be correlated with a ‘cold oven’, sometimes turns off after working fine for hours. May happen once per month, or several times in a day.

It seems the oven controller orders the turn off; it senses something it does not like- but after turn-off; there is no error display. If you attempt to restart the oven (when it refuses to do so), the burner gets power for a fraction of a second, then the control relay clicks – and power is turned off to the burner.

Questions;

Does this controller have some set of ‘trip-points’ based on over-current or over temp settings; ?

The range will shut down if the temperature goes out of control but the control will display a code.

If the oven goes over 590 degrees the F2 code will display.

The control itself does not shut down.

Your control is faulty.

Can you please check your model number as I can not locate it in our database.

Dear Sheila,
I agree with your assessment, in fact I did replace the control unit with an exact (new) replacement- but the problem persists.

There must be another contributing factor, perhaps there is a power spike on element turn-on that resets the controller (if the element hot resistance is lower than it used to be?)

I hope someone else has seen the problem, since these intermittent issues can be difficult to pin down.

I may try to replace the sensor- since itls only $15 and could conceivably be the problem- in spite of the fact that error codes dont flash on after the oven 'kicks out'.

You may not have seen the model number, since it was made in Canada by CAMCO under the GE brand.
